Restatements (Questions 9-12)

This part consists of several sentences, each followed by four possible ways of restating the
main idea of that sentence in different words. For each question, choose the one restatement
which best expresses the meaning of the original sentence.

9.	 Because the chemical properties of hafnium are virtually identical to those of

       zirconium, distinguishing between the two elements is difficult.

       (1) One characteristic of both hafnium and zirconium is that they are extremely difficult
            to separate from other elements.

       (2) It is difficult to tell hafnium and zirconium apart because their chemical properties
            are almost the same.

       (3) Hafnium and zirconium have some properties that are similar to those of other

12.	 It is a common misperception that architect Frank Gehry practiced for the better part of

       two decades before demonstrating any discernible talent.

            before his gifts were fully recognized.

       (2) It is a common misperception that it took Frank Gehry twenty years to develop his
            own unique style.
