Restatements (Questions 9-12)

This part consists of several sentences, each followed by four possible ways of restating the
main idea of that sentence in different words. For each question, choose the one restatement
which best expresses the meaning of the original sentence.

9. Although Delaware is the state that bears his name, Thomas West De La Warr was in

fact governor of Virginia.

(1) Thomas West De La Warr, who served as governor of Virginia, was originally from
Delaware.

(2) When Thomas West De La Warr left Delaware to become governor of Virginia, he
took his home state's name as his own.

(3) Thomas West De La Warr was governor of both Delaware and Virginia, but only
Delaware bears his name.
