Restatements (Questions 9-12)
This part consists of several sentences, each followed by four possible ways of restating the
main idea of that sentence in different words. For each question, choose the one restatement
which best expresses the meaning of the original sentence.
9. "Don't think there are no crocodiles because the water appears calm." (Malayan
proverb)
(1) One need not fear what one cannot see.
(2) When things are calm, there is nothing to worry about.
(3) Crocodiles cannot live in still waters.
(4) One should always be on the lookout for hidden dangers.
10. Oil revenue has made Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, one of the world's fastest-

12. In the third century C.E., Classic Latin and Vulgar Latin diverged; the former became
the medium of literature, while the latter became the ancestor of the Romance
languages.
